Logos are often the first thing potential customers will see as they form their first impressions of your company. Use the design tips below and extensive brainstorming to develop a memorable design. Use your final logo design to brand several materials or products that relate to your company.

Logo Design Tips

  • use your new icon making skills and sensibilities as a starting point for creating imagery for this project (complex in concept/simple in form)

  • start your design in black and white, then use a limited color palette for unity or emphasis

  • consider the taste and needs of your target audience

  • experiment with various types of design styles to see what works best

  • consider symbolism or mash up solutions

  • type out your company name in uppercase and lowercase (do an on screen font contest as part of your brainstorming)

  • spend some time researching current logo trends (general search + instagram + behance)

  • check out professional work for inspiration top-logo-design-resources

  • don't use stock art and test out your logo using the reduction rule

  • research your rivals and aim for gaps

Workflow

  2. Turn in a completed brainstorm sheet to your folder by the 3rd day of this project (brainstorming should happen before you begin on the computer)

  3. Play & Plan in Illustrator (try several ideas from your brainstorming sheet, consider where your designs could deviate from your original plan)

  4. Build your logos with care and craftsmanship

  5. Design & Feedback get feedback by asking peers how the information is being visually interpreted. Review the tips mentioned above. Are you on target?

  6. Layout your most successful logo on the top of the page with a 4+ sentence rationale, include 3 alternates at the bottom of the page

  7. Add a 2nd Artboard that will contain 2 branded products plus an app icon

  8. Turn In your A5Lastname.ai file into our period turn in folder on the classes drive
