A1 Silhouette Profiles
Project Overview: create a silhouette self portrait that shows pen control and creativity through composition/layering
Due Date: TBD check white board
Grading Parameters: LT 1, 2, 3 & 4 (see our template folder for a checklist)
The power of simplicity
A silhouette shows the shape of a subject without any detail. Silhouettes have the perfect combination of simplicity, power and creativity. They can be "visually read" quickly and when grouped together can sometimes have a greater impact together versus alone.
Brainstorm:
Complete the in-class provided brainstorm sheet to come up with 4 ideas, thumbnail out 3 and ultimately choose 1 to use for your final project.
Workflow
Photograph your profile and Place & Trace it in Illustrator on a Tabloid size document
Find reference photos that fit your theme to trace - put them in your "links" folder. Place & Trace them in Illustrator (minimum of 3 not including your head).
Play with grouping your silhouettes in various compositions.
Consider:
- placement (what are some of the variations of areas/sections the design could be put?)
- color choice
- stoke vs. fill vs stroke + fill
-size
-rotation
-negative spaceMake some of the decisions listed above and thoughtfully create a cohesive design
