The power of simplicity

A silhouette shows the shape of a subject without any detail. Silhouettes have the perfect combination of simplicity, power and creativity. They can be "visually read" quickly and when grouped together can sometimes have a greater impact together versus alone.

Brainstorm:

Complete the in-class provided brainstorm sheet to come up with 4 ideas, thumbnail out 3 and ultimately choose 1 to use for your final project.

Workflow

  1. Photograph your profile and Place & Trace it in Illustrator on a Tabloid size document

  2. Find reference photos that fit your theme to trace - put them in your "links" folder. Place & Trace them in Illustrator (minimum of 3 not including your head).

  3. Play with grouping your silhouettes in various compositions.
    Consider:
    - placement (what are some of the variations of areas/sections the design could be put?)
    - color choice
    - stoke vs. fill vs stroke + fill
    -size
    -rotation
    -negative space

  4. Make some of the decisions listed above and thoughtfully create a cohesive design

  5. Check out the tips & variations located in the "classes" GD1 templates folder to refine design and experiment with variations

  6. Turn in your Lastname A1 folder into the Graphic Design 1 A1 turn in folder located on the "classes" server
Inside your A1 folder should be:
    -links folder
-final file (4 artboards /4 design variations) a sample of the required variations can be found in the GD1 templates folder
